WASHINGTON, DC – Farm Bill 2.0 now moves toward the Senate floor after the Agriculture Committee voted 12-11 Wednesday to advance the Agricultural Act of 2026. The next stage could determine whether lawmakers can resolve remaining disputes and move a final package before year-end.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune told committee members they can offer additional amendments on the floor. Senator John Hoeven of North Dakota made the same point, urging members to continue debate there rather than reopen the committee markup.
Several unresolved issues remain. Committee members raised concerns involving California Proposition 12, nutrition cost-sharing, Packers and Stockyards Act rules, conservation funding, and other provisions that could return during floor consideration.
The committee’s Farm Bill 2.0 summary also includes updated farm programs, rural development, research, conservation, financing tools, specialty crop provisions, and authorization of year-round E15 sales.
Even if the Senate passes the measure, the process would not be finished. House and Senate differences would still need to be reconciled before a final bill could be sent to President Donald Trump for signature.
