Agribusiness Report Podcast: Matt Makins Says Drought Still Limits Herd Rebuilding

Today’s guest is Matt Makins of Makins Weather. Makins discusses the depth of the drought across the western United States and why current conditions continue to affect pasture, forage and the cattle industry’s ability to rebuild the U.S. herd.

Makins also explains how a strong El Niño could improve moisture across Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, eastern New Mexico and other parts of the central and southern Plains. He says the next six to 12 months could create better opportunities for wheat pasture and forage, while producers in the West may need much more than one wet season to erase long-term drought deficits.
