Ag News Update – Wednesday 10/28/2026

President Donald Trump announced in Lubbock Tuesday night that EPA is proposing major changes to oil and natural gas methane regulations, with the agency projecting $45 billion in lower compliance costs and increased domestic energy production. Interior is directing federal agencies to expand livestock grazing opportunities and reduce permit backlogs. Better wheat pasture conditions are supporting stronger Oklahoma calf prices, with steer calves at OKC West $10 to $20 per hundredweight higher and some as much as $40 higher. CoBank says heavy farmer selling could leave some elevators owning about half of their local corn and soybean crop, increasing financing risk. Meridian Ag Advisors says record cattle prices still have not triggered broad beef herd rebuilding. USDA also plans $57.4 million in tentative meat processing awards across 40 states.
