Cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with a capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 11.6 million head on October 1, 2021, and down 1 percent from just one year earlier.
Cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market are seeing the second-highest May 1 inventory since 1996.
According to USDA feedlots have their second-highest inventory in 25 years.
USDA’s final Cattle on Feed Report for 2020, released Friday, lacked much drama as all the projections of the domestic cow herd fell in line with analyst projections.
