According to the latest American Farm Bureau Federation basket survey, holiday meals this season will be more expensive. Specifically for Thanksgiving, the traditional meal – centered around turkey – will average almost $47.
Higher feed costs may contribute to slower meat production growth in the U.S. in 2022 and subsequent years. That’s just one prediction from the Food and Agriculture Policy Research Institute at the University of Missouri.
According to the latest Consumer Price Index released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the food price index increased 0.7 percent in July after rising 0.8 percent in June.
According to the Economic Research Service, the amount of money the U.S. consumer invested in food last year during the coronavirus pandemic fell to the lowest share in 60 years.
Grocery store prices were 5.6 percent higher in June 2020 than during the same month one year ago and increased for every category except fresh fruits.
