Corn Ethanol Soybean Crush Strengthen Domestic Crop Demand

NASHVILLE, TN – Domestic processing demand remained firm for corn and soybeans in August, giving producers another outlet as USDA reported stronger year-over-year use for both crops.

Corn consumed for alcohol and other uses totaled 528 million bushels, down less than 1% from July but up 4% from August 2025. Fuel ethanol accounted for 478 million bushels, also 4% above a year earlier.

Soybean processors crushed 210 million bushels during August. That was down from 222 million bushels in July but above the 198 million bushels crushed in August 2025. Crude soybean oil production reached 2.45 billion pounds.

Corn processing also generated 1.85 million tons of distillers dried grains with solubles. Distillers wet grains totaled 1.28 million tons, up 5% from a year earlier, supporting livestock feed supplies.

The August numbers show ethanol plants and soybean crushers continuing to provide significant domestic demand for major row crops as harvest supplies move into the market.

Farm-Level Takeaway: Strong year-over-year ethanol use and soybean crush continue to support domestic demand for corn and soybeans.
