Cotton Production Down 7 Percent from November Forecast

WASHINGTON, DC – All cotton production is forecast at 15.9 million bales, down 7 percent from the previous forecast and down 20 percent from 2019. That’s according to the latest forecast released from the National Agricultural Statistics Service’s (NASS) Crop Production report. Based on conditions as of December 1st, yields are expected to average 850 pounds per harvested acre, down 61 pounds from the previous forecast but 27 pounds more from last year. Upland cotton production is forecast at 15.4 million bales, down 20 percent from 2019. All cotton area harvested is forecast at 9.01 million acres, unchanged from the previous forecast but 22 percent less than last year.
