EPA Announces New Dicamba Cotton and Soybean Registrations

BROOKLET, GA – Back in June, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals vacated the registrations for three dicamba products used extensively by U.S. cotton and soybean producers. As a result, farmers were left without cost-effective options to control herbicide-resistant weeds in fields where 41 percent of soybeans and 70 percent of cotton is planted to dicamba-tolerant seeds. On Tuesday, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Andrew Wheeler announced new five-year registrations for two dicamba producers and an extension of the registration of a third. Now all three registrations include new control measures to endure the products that can be used effectively while also protecting the environment. These registrations are only for use on dicamba-tolerant cotton and soybeans and will expire in 2025.
