NASHVILLE, TN – House Agriculture Committee Chairman GT Thompson says about 20% of the Farm Bill remains unfinished after the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill, which addressed the majority of priorities for American farmers and ranch families. Thompson, referring to that earlier legislation as “Farm Bill 1.0,” noted that Farm Bill 2.0 will focus on largely bipartisan, relatively affordable policies, estimated at under $8 billion, with funding expected to be fully offset.

Among the provisions already in place are permanent disaster assistance funding to eliminate the need for ad hoc relief, new tax policy favorable to agriculture, and expanded eligibility for farm kids seeking higher education. Thompson said the changes across all titles of the bill mark significant progress for rural America.

Speaking with All Ag News, the Chairman expects the remaining legislation to move through the House Agriculture Committee by the end of September and is working closely with Ranking Member Angie Craig and Chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee John Boozman to finalize the package.
