NASHVILLE, TN – Global oilseed production is forecast to reach a record in 2026/27 as soybean, sunflowerseed, rapeseed, and peanut output rise. USDA’s Economic Research Service projects global oilseed production at 718.1 million metric tons, up 19.6 million from the previous year.
Soybeans account for most of the gain. ERS forecasts global soybean production at a record 441.5 million metric tons, with larger crops expected in Brazil, the United States, Argentina, and most major producing countries.
Demand is also growing. Global oilseed crush is projected at 549.8 million metric tons, up 22.6 million metric tons, as meal demand grows with livestock and aquaculture production and oil demand expands for food and industrial uses.
Biofuels remain a key driver. ERS says industrial use of major vegetable oils continues to grow, especially in Indonesia, Brazil, and the United States. Soybean oil, palm oil, rapeseed oil, and sunflowerseed oil all remain important to that outlook.
Brazil’s soybean crop is projected at a record 186 million metric tons, with exports accounting for 62 percent of global soybean trade.
Farm-Level Takeaway: Record oilseed production may expand supply, but crush and biofuel demand remain major supports for soybean and vegetable oil markets.
