House Committee Passes EPA and Agriculture Appropriations Bills

WASHINGTON, DC – Two amendments were added to the recently passed FY22 Agriculture Appropriations bill by the House Appropriations Committee. The $177 billion spending program includes language that will limit increases in line speed at poultry plants and will also make it illegal for the Chinese government to own farmland in the United States. Since, however, China currently owns 191,000 farmland in the U.S., the amendment would also make the Chinese ineligible for farm programs.

The committee also passed its FY22 funding bill for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), drastically increasing funding by more than 20 percent over last year. That passage was along party lines and includes language urging the Agency to expedite work on methods to measure air emissions from concentrated animal feeding operations. The bills should be on the floor of the House for consideration later this month.
