Lamb Exports Strengthen as Pork and Beef Weaken

WASHINGTON, DC – As beef and pork exports continue to face headwinds in 2021, one meat category has seen impressive growth. According to the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF), exports of U.S. lamb in February increased 142 percent from 2020, and the value of the products grew 19 percent. The growth is attributed to increased demand from Mexico, Canada, and Hong Kong. For the year (through February), USMEF reports that lamb exports were up 52 percent from a year ago but the value has slipped 19 percent. Export demand remains solid despite logistical challenges and other pandemic-related obstacles.
