WASHINGTON, DC – Cattle on feed in the U.S. as of June 1, 2021 are at the second-highest level in recorded history, according to the latest data from USDA.

The monthly June Cattle on Feed report shows 11.7 million head in inventory, a slight year over year increase and placements during the month of May were 7 percent below the same timeframe in 2020.

Marketings in May totaled 1.87 million head, a 23 percent increase over May 2020 but analysts had warned that a major increase in the category should be expected, especially in light of the weak marketings last year due to coronavirus.
