URBANA, IL – Farmers are expected to receive record 2025 Agriculture Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage payments by the end of October, according to a new farmdoc daily analysis from the University of Illinois.

Farmdoc estimates total payments across eligible commodities at just over $13.2 billion, compared with USDA’s publicized estimate of $13.8 billion. Corn, soybean and wheat payments account for more than $9 billion of the total.

Average payments are estimated at $51 per corn base acre, $29 for soybeans and $47 for wheat. Rice, peanuts and seed cotton carry some of the highest per-acre support rates.

The larger payments reflect lower 2025 commodity prices and program changes enacted in 2025. Producers also receive whichever is higher between ARC-County and PLC for 2025, regardless of their original enrollment choice.

That one-time provision ends for 2026. Enrollment is now open, and producers must again choose between ARC and PLC by December 11.

Farm-Level Takeaway: Record 2025 payments are approaching, but producers must make a new ARC or PLC election for 2026.
