Sales Report Reveals Big Week for Beef Exports

WASHINGTON, DC – USDA released their Weekly Export Sales report on Thursday morning, with a marketing-year high for beef and a marketing-year low for wheat and soybeans.

Wheat: Net sales of more than 192,000 metric tons (MT) represents a marketing-year low (down 36 percent from the previous week and 62 percent from the prior 4-week average). Increases for China, Mexico, and Japan, were offset by reductions for the Philippines, Panama, and the United Arab Emirates. Exports were down 24 percent (270,500 MT) from the previous week and 17 percent from the prior 4-week average.

Corn: Net sales of almost 1.1 million metric tons were up 11 percent from the previous week, but down 43 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases primarily for Mexico, Japan, and China. Exports were up 16 percent from the previous week (just under 845,000 MT) and 9 percent from the prior 4-week average.

Sorghum: Net sales of just under 118,000 MT from China, and Eritrea. Exports were just shy of 255,000 MT were to China, Eritrea, and Japan.

Soybeans: Net sales of almost 1.4 million metric tons was a marketing-year low (down 6 percent from the previous week and 18 percent from the prior 4-week average). Increases primarily for China, Mexico, and Spain. Exports of more than 2,55 million metric tons were down 20 percent from the previous week and 6 percent from the prior 4-week average.

Cotton: Net sales of 131,400 RB were down 45 percent from the previous week and 40 percent from the prior 4-week average. Major buyers were Vietnam, Pakistan, and Turkey. Exports were primarily to China, Pakistan, and Vietnam.

Beef: Net sales hit a marketing-year high (46,400 MT), up noticeably from the previous week and from the prior 4-week average. Increases were primarily for South Korea, Mexico, and Japan. Exports also achieved a marketing-year high (22,300 MT), an increase of 58 percent from the previous week and 27 percent from the prior 4-week average.

Pork: Net sales (nearly 29,000 MT) were down 32 percent from the previous week and 18 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases primarily for Mexico, Canada, and South Korea. Exports of 38,800 MT were up 2 percent from the previous week and 4 percent from the prior 4-week average.
