Weekly Pork Exports Achieve New Marketing Year High

WASHINGTON, DC – For the week ending April 22, 2021, U.S. pork exports hit a new marketing year high and sales for corn, sorghum, and soybeans were higher than the previous week according to the latest USDA Weekly Export Sales Report.

•Net wheat sales (223,600 metric tons) were down 7 percent from the previous week, but up 73 percent from the prior 4-week average on increases primarily for Mexico, Indonesia, and Yemen. Exports (548,700 MT) were down 2 percent from the previous week to China, South Korea, and Japan.

•Net sales of corn (521,300 MT) were up 35 percent from the previous week, but down 8 percent from the prior 4-week average primarily for Mexico, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia. Exports to China, Japan, and Mexico (1,915,200 MT) were up 19 percent from the previous week and 3 percent from the prior 4-week average.

•Net sales of sorghum were noticeably higher than the previous week as China purchased almost a quarter of a million metric tons and they were also the lone export customer for the week.

•Net sales of soybeans (292,500 MT) were up noticeably from the previous week and from the prior 4-week average on purchases by Mexico, China, and Egypt. Weekly exports were 50 percent higher than the previous week on shipments to Egypt, Mexico, and Japan.

•Weekly old-crop cotton sales (77,100 RB) fell 25 percent from the previous week and 46 percent from the prior 4-week average on continued purchases by Turkey, China, and Pakistan. New crop sales (16,300 RB) were also reported for Mexico, Pakistan, and Thailand. Exports were 4 percent higher from the previous week primarily to China, Vietnam, and Turkey.

•Beef sales (23,600 MT) slipped 4 percent from the previous week, but up 22 percent from the prior 4-week average on purchases from South Korea, Japan, and Mexico. Exports were also down 4 percent from the previous week primarily to South Korea, Japan, and China.

•Net pork sales, though down noticeably from the previous week (35,600 MT), were still 59 percent higher than the prior 4-week average on purchases from Mexico, Japan, and South Korea. Exports of almost 59,000 metric tons hit a new marketing-year high primarily to Mexico, China, and Japan.
