Tractor And Combine Sales Fall Across North America

MILWAUKEE, WI – U.S. tractor and combine sales declined in September, adding another signal of weaker machinery demand as producers remain cautious about major capital purchases, according to the Association of Equipment Manufacturers.

The group reports U.S. farm tractor sales fell 16.4% from a year earlier to 15,024 units. Combine sales declined 10.9% to 369 units. Year-to-date tractor sales were down 12.6%, while combine sales were 9.4% lower.

Weakness extended across tractor categories. Sales of tractors under 40 horsepower dropped 15.4%, 40- to 100-horsepower sales fell 18.7%, tractors above 100 horsepower declined 15%, and four-wheel-drive tractor sales dropped 20.2%.

Canada showed similar pressure. Tractor sales fell 15.1% from September 2025, while combine sales dropped 37.6%. The association says the figures reflect continued difficulty across the agricultural economy.

Producers and equipment dealers will be watching whether improved farm income, financing conditions or stronger commodity prices can slow the decline in machinery sales during the final quarter.

Farm-Level Takeaway: Lower machinery sales reflect continued producer caution toward major equipment purchases as farm margins remain under pressure.
